Bryan Adams - Room Service
(And Good Old-Fashioned Working Class Values)
01 May 2006
If rock stars were blokes down the pub, Bryan Adams would be sitting quietly at the end of the end of the bar with a pint of IPA. But while Bono grandstands about global poverty, and orders himself another "reassuringly expensive" pint of Stella, the man from Canada is getting a round in.

To be honest, we only bought Room Service - Bryan Adams' latest album - because we were looking for something to listen to, and we saw it for £6.99, in the bargain bucket at Amazon.co.uk. But as pleasant surprises go, it has been surprisingly pleasant - we particularly like... well, all of it really, from the melodic East Side Story to the twinkle-in-the-eye rocker She's A Little To Good For Me.

Surprisingly pleasant then; but NOT, however, pleasantly surprising. Hell, it's not even remotely surprising! This is Bryan Adams we are talking about, and (Into The Fire aside) this CD is exactly what he has been doing for donkey's years.

Is this a problem? We don't think so! After all, you wouldn't expect your bricklayer to suddenly go all "arty" on you, and embed an ironic East German motor vehicle into your wall. Like a master builder, Bryan Adams learned his craft long ago, and continues to practice it with beautiful simplicity - the embodiment of good old-fashioned working class values.

The point is we are all connected... through love... through loneliness... through one lamentable lapse in judgment!
